From "Ugly rare and curious" to ; consumer products "a beautiful world"

The return of bands recognized on the world stage can reassess the ideology of the musical, and so understand why they are still accepting as said drummer Mortal Settlement, a punk band Tijuana who played with Dead Kennedys, Black Flag and DRI in the eighties, when police arrested the youth for "ugly, odd and curious, and repression are living on the streets of the city.
And Alan Lezama Bernal Mortal Solution drummer, noted that there is much local talent, but young people are willing to erase their identity, and even to imitate the commercial products sold in the market over the music.
Although the aim is to record albums and go on MTV, the goal is not easily achieved, since the proposals of a dominant genre, such as the ska and reggae, they tend to be very similar to each other, said Alan Bernal.
However, Mortal Solution neglected or did not care to promote the capital achieved after they shared the stage with Jello Biafra, political activist vocal and lyricist of Dead Kennedys.
Mortal Solution homemade recordings was distributed in key states Republic, and people of Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey came to listen to Tijuana. Thus began a series of trips, and exchanges of information through fanzines, the latter carrying them problems with municipal police and judicial.
Young dieciochoañeros were imprisoned for "ugly, odd and curious," a situation that drew the attention of the weekly Zeta and researcher José Manuel Valenzuela, who published the book A la brava that! [1] , which deals with the cultural identities of young people at the border and the center of the country.
So record companies are interested in them and record live albums, At the Edge of the Abyss, with a English company, a world dung, and even Mortal solution classifies the material produced during the eighties does not come interested in proposals for record labels.
After two decades, continues Mortal Solution playing without Julius Caesar, guitarist, songwriter and founder of the band, while maintaining the alignment vocals, bass and drums: Jorge Lezama, Luis Lezama Vallaruel and Alan, respectively. Raúl Ochoa entered the guitar.
Denver
seal and sign the record contract for several years, although Mortal solution is presented in the United States more often to support resistance groups pro immigrant.
During the conversation, Alan Lezama mitómana rescues the figure of Luis Güereña and presents it as a promoter Tijuana counterculture. Also reminded the group as one of Black Market the first local bands, and landmarks in Tijuana where they met and where groups of young people today continue to meet for different activities.
Volante : Mortal solution is then formed and what other groups are born to the couple .
Alan Lezama : Here in Tijuana, where he was born Mortal solution, after a year, was born another band called Black Market. And besides, there was another person, well, already dead and rest in peace, who is the friend Luis Güereña. He was with the group Tijuana No, he was at the time a driver of the artistic movement, cultural. And we started doing events in schools. We did concerts in schools in order to differentiate what you do and are looking for. And there were some problems at first that I took as subversive. Is what we always see the system when you speak against something and you take it as subversive.
There were reprisals. The guitarist of us was responsible for making a zine, speaking of the movement here in Tijuana and was called Conscious Youth . Age of Caesar. My brother and I were the philosophers. Then he began to fall into the hands of the people, whether in itself looked at us as strangers to us: They arrested the guitar and some friends of us delivering magazines. We wore the magazines, we were accused of subversive and so many things. Total arrests had between us and did not know what to accuse.
Volante : And it created a business around the punk movement. Las Iguanas, for example.
Alan Lezama : Well, Las Iguanas was a project of people in the U.S. and here in Mexico to make a cultural exchange. And here in Tijuana, Las Iguanas was very important globally, because there are supposedly had the best of each genre.
"Dead Kennedys was here in the House of Culture. For us we were invited to participate in an international festival here in Los Angeles. It was a festival every year made. Then he had all recognized international groups in the movement, speaking, of course, groups who are concerned not only for making and selling records.
"So in this international event presented one of the most recognized, Dead Kennedys, who are political. Then following that event, Dead Kennedys became interested in us much. And playing here in Mexico. And from the beginning he said, Jello Biafra, no, I am interested to share scene with you, but in a culture. Cultural and old. Then we decided to do the event in the House of Culture. This event is organized between Luis Güereña and Mortal solution.
"And due to share the stage with groups too high, and at Republic (sic) began to hear the group Mortal solution. And I started growing movement across the country at the time, in the decades 82, 83, 84. And in 1986 was our first visit to Mexico. But note that for 1982 people in Mexico and Guadalajara came to see us here in Tijuana. All home recordings began arriving in Mexico, Guadalajara. And as in 1984, a record company, Denver, was interested in us.
"Overall we did not put much attention to the business. We cassettes in 1984. Some were living in the United States. Others were here live in Las Iguanas. And all that because that bands began to be created. We started to have communication with Mexico, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Sinaloa. "
Volante : Now, an Argentine group comes to us that the Mexican musical movement, the Mexican rock is as old as a teenager.
Alan Lezama: Well, maybe what we've been hearing is commercial music, right? Because I, as a musician and cultural promoter, many people, too good, so artistically, still exists. Maybe it is wrong not to follow up on things. We've done from 1982 to these dates.
"For the musicians I know, and speaking of good stuff, they like to have your drive, be Telehit or MTV. That desire is not bad, not bad if desired. But believe a company is going to come to find, then complain that there is here in Tijuana record companies. And say why. What I do not know is that from the good, (companies) in bloom.
"If the Federal District in Mexico in Guadalajara so many record companies, is because they have fought to have them. Then, the artists here, to criticize the record companies that do not come here. I mean, fame is power, but according to gender, according to the ideal, the companies come, right?
"Now is there that good groups, good genera, are dating. They have always been in their development as humans, but it's nice to return to groups now take into account the ideal (sic). We signed a contract for fifteen albums to Denver, again. A lifetime. In other words, there are companies to offer you by your name. "
Volante : What are the scenarios for Mortal Solution?
Alan Lezama: Right now we want to go to America. We are about to start playing in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, where exhibitions are held, especially multidisciplinary. For those people for many projects that educate others. That interests us. We played with artists that create awareness in society. Playing with people from cultural arts projects, where fun, but you're educating.
"The world is beautiful, as long as you understand and we care. Y above all that we have a very tough fight against drug traffickers. We must prevent people from using drugs. People becoming addicted. Do not find trouble free. "
Volante : you say the world Right now, I remember a title called A World dunghill, right?
Alan Lezama: Well. A record that if it was under study is called The Edge of the Abyss. That was with a English company. Well, there's live albums, one live says: cultural exchange in Los Angeles, California, Mexico. O That is, each has put his name to the disks. I'm saying is, we were easy to share music. Now we are preparing new album is called endangered. Maybe many people have said it is very strong, but we must Irlo understanding, we are not evil or anything.
